Gum disease has been linked to other health conditions such as heart disease. Regular brushing and flossing, combined with oral hygiene appointments and dental exams, are your best lines of defence against decay and infections.

Oral Hygiene

Every oral hygiene appointment begins with an Extraoral Clinical Assessment, which is a thorough examination of your head, face, skin, and lymph glands. This is followed by an Intraoral Clinical Assessment, which is an evaluation of your mouth, teeth and gums, tongue, and surrounding tissues. Finally, we’ll examine the surfaces of your teeth to check for decay or injury.

After the assessment, your hygienist will remove plaque and tartar from your teeth, and then polish your teeth to remove any stains.

Dental Exam

A regular dental exam lets us detect problems before they start. Your dentist will examine the inside of your mouth and your teeth and gums. We may also perform an oral cancer screening and we may take X-rays of your teeth and jaws.

Contact our office today to schedule an oral hygiene appointment and exam.

Related Videos

Wed, 23 Oct 2019 18:32:23 +0000 admin 53 at https://www.dentistryonbrant.com Sedation Dentistry in Burlington https://www.dentistryonbrant.com/services/sedation-dentistry-burlington Sedation Dentistry in Burlington admin Wed, 10/23/2019 - 13:30

If you suffer from anxiety during dental appointments, you’re not alone. We provide a range of sedation options to help you stay calm and manage your anxiety.

What kinds of procedures can be done under sedation?

Any procedure can be done under sedation. Whether to use sedation is your decision, based on your individual needs. Patients have found sedation helpful for oral hygiene appointments, tooth extractions, restorative procedures, and root canal treatment.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedatives can help you stay relaxed during treatment. We will give you an anti-anxiety medication in the chair one hour before your appointment is scheduled to start. Depending on the dosage, the sedative will provide a mild to moderate level of sedation.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a popular and widely used dental sedative. It produces a light sedative effect that quickly wears off. We sometimes use nitrous oxide in combination with oral sedatives for patients who need a higher level of sedation.

IV Sedation

Intravenous, or IV sedation produces a high level of conscious sedation. It will make you feel extremely relaxed and you are unlikely to remember anything about your treatment.

Is Sedation Safe?

All forms of sedation are safe. Our team members are trained in administering and managing sedatives, and we also have certification in CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. While you are sedated, we’ll keep you safe by monitoring your pulse, breathing and vital signs during your appointment.

What can I expect after treatment?

You may be drowsy and disoriented after your treatment. Patients who have received oral or IV sedation will not be able to drive, so you will need to arrange a ride home from your appointment. You shouldn’t drive or make important decisions for 24 hours after your appointment.

To learn more about dental sedation or to make an appointment, please contact our office.

Wed, 23 Oct 2019 18:30:23 +0000 admin 52 at https://www.dentistryonbrant.com Endodontics in Burlington https://www.dentistryonbrant.com/services/endodontics-burlington Endodontics in Burlington admin Wed, 10/23/2019 - 13:27

Root canal treatment is a common but sometimes misunderstood dental procedure. In fact, it’s the best way to save a tooth that has been damaged and is at risk of infection.

Why would I need a root canal?

Each one of your teeth contains a bundle of soft tissue, called the pulp, in a tiny space called the pulp chamber or canal. If the tooth is damaged, the pulp can be exposed to infection, which can lead to a serious gum infection or the loss of the tooth. To prevent this from happening, and to save the tooth, we recommend root canal treatment for damaged teeth.

How does root canal treatment work?

The treatment works by removing the pulp and sanitizing the tooth to prevent infection. The pulp is removed through a tiny hole drilled in the crown of the tooth. Once the pulp has been removed, we fill the canal and restore the tooth with a dental filling and crown.

Aren’t root canals painful?

Root canals are performed under local anesthesia, so they’re painless. You may experience some discomfort and soreness after the procedure, similar to getting a tooth filled.

If you’re experiencing a severe toothache, call our office. It could be the sign of a damaged or infected tooth.

Related Videos

Wed, 23 Oct 2019 18:27:44 +0000 admin 51 at https://www.dentistryonbrant.com Periodontal Services in Burlington https://www.dentistryonbrant.com/services/periodontal-services-burlington Periodontal Services in Burlington admin Wed, 10/23/2019 - 13:24

Your gums and other tissues that support your teeth can be vulnerable to infection and injury. We provide scaling and root planing services to keep your teeth free from tartar, and we also perform extractions in the event a tooth needs to be removed.

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling is the removal of tartar from your teeth. Tartar is an extremely hard substance that can build up along the gumline and make your teeth and gums vulnerable to decay and infection. We remove the tartar with special instruments so your teeth stay healthy. Root planing is a similar procedure where we remove rough and irregular patches from the surface of your teeth. These patches can cause irritation and inflammation, which can make your gums susceptible to infection.

Extractions

No dentist wants to extract a tooth, but sometimes an extraction is necessary to protect your other teeth or your overall health. Some of the reasons we may extract a tooth include severe decay, infection, impaction, or injury. We try to make extraction as painless as possible, and we’ll give you instructions on proper home care to prevent discomfort and allow your mouth to heal.

Call us today to make an appointment.

Related Videos

Wed, 23 Oct 2019 18:24:54 +0000 admin 50 at https://www.dentistryonbrant.com Family Dentistry in Burlington https://www.dentistryonbrant.com/services/family-dentistry-burlington Family Dentistry in Burlington admin Wed, 10/23/2019 - 13:20

Children are the faces of tomorrow. They can improve the shape and colour of your teeth, close spaces between teeth, or cover stains. They’re also a very good option to restore teeth that have been damaged or chipped.

Contouring and Bonding

Shaping techniques such as contouring and bonding are used to modify the appearance of single teeth by the removal of enamel or addition of dental resin. They are used to remove or cover stains, change the shape or spacing of a tooth, or repair chips or other superficial damage.

Ceramic Crowns

These crowns are used to totally restore the appearance of a single tooth that has been severely damaged or which can’t be treated with veneers or bonding. To fill a tooth, we remove any existing decayed areas and prepare the tooth, then we fill it with a silver amalgam or composite filling.

Crowns

A tooth requires a crown when it needs to be completely repaired. Some common examples of when we’d use a crown are to repair a tooth that has a very large cavity or has been damaged, or to restore a tooth after root canal treatment. The crown is custom designed to fit over the tooth and is usually made from metal, porcelain, or a combination of materials.

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are an alternative to fillings and crowns that are used to restore damaged molars. They provide more structural support than a filling, but are not a complete restoration like a crown. Inlays restore the non-biting areas of the tooth, while onlays restore the biting areas (the cusps) and are designed to be extremely strong.

Bridges

Bridges are used to replace a tooth that has been lost or extracted. The bridge is an artificial tooth that is attached to your natural teeth. Once in place, the bridge restores the gap left in your smile and blends with the shape and colour of your natural teeth.

Contact us today to make an appointment.

Related Videos

Wed, 23 Oct 2019 18:10:36 +0000 admin 47 at https://www.dentistryonbrant.com Emergency Dentistry in Burlington https://www.dentistryonbrant.com/services/emergency-dentistry-burlington Emergency Dentistry in Burlington admin Wed, 10/23/2019 - 13:06

Sometimes dental emergencies can occur when we least expect them.
